Mini Key Fob Replacement
Key fobs today do much more than simply unlock and start the vehicle. They also control the windows and sunroof. They are costly to replace if they are damaged or lost.
It's possible to save money by replacing the fob's battery on your own. Here's how: Find an opening on the key fob and insert your tool.
Battery
Modern key fobs are incredibly useful and convenient, however they do require a bit of maintenance to ensure they function properly. As time passes, the battery in your key fob will wear out of juice and will need to be replaced. If your car becomes difficult to start or the buttons stop functioning, you'll know it's time to replace your battery.
Changing the battery in your key fob is fairly simple. First put the key fob on a flat surface, and press the metal button until it pops up. Find the seam between the lid and the base of the fob. You can then employ a small screwdriver with a flat blade (or sometimes even your fingernail) to push the two halves apart gently.
Then lift the clips that hold the battery and then remove it. If your key fob contains slots that hold the battery, replace it with a new one. Make sure you insert the new battery in the correct direction and also in the plus and minus.
You'll need an CR 2032 3V coin cell, that is readily available in all stores that sell batteries or online. The battery will usually look like a disc with the symbols of a plus and negative printed on it. Be careful when handling the battery, since it may leak if you use your hands with dirt. The leakage may damage circuit boards, making them less efficient in the future.
Programming
Today's car key fob does more than simply unlock and start the vehicle. It's an remote control for a variety of systems. These functions include changing your seat and mirror adjustments, setting the radio and climate control preferences, and many others that are specifically designed to meet your needs. Unfortunately these smart key fobs are also prone to get messed up from various reasons. Sometimes, replacing the battery will fix the problem but in some cases, reprogramming your key fob is needed.
It's not difficult to reprogram the fob of your key, and you can do it at the comfort of your home or at work. First, secure your vehicle and ensure that the keys are inside it. Press and hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons on your new key fob simultaneously, until you hear a chime or a locks cycle. This will reset the connection between your keyfob's and vehicle.
Then, remove the backup ignition key in metal from your fob, and then set it aside in a safe location. Move the fob's back cover toward its center to give it a slight lift and allow you to remove it. Replace the battery on your key fob by a new CR2032, which can be purchased at our Golden Valley parts department or at local stores and hardware close to Minnetonka and St Louis Park.
Keyless Entry
Modern key fobs provide a range of advantages, from convenience to security. You can open your trunk and car doors using a button on your fob which sends a radio frequency signal to the car's receiver. This system has its benefits and pitfalls, however.
Some thieves have developed devices that can intercept signals from your keys, and then duplicate them to serve as an "key" for opening and starting your vehicle. You can guard yourself by placing your key fob inside a shielded case (also called Faraday pouches) which limit the distance that frequencies emitted by the fob are transmitted. The pouches are sold at most auto parts shops for less than PS10.
Certain systems also let you unlock the car without pressing a button. The vehicle will lock or unlock automatically when you get close to the door handle, as long as your key is within the fob and in the range of a car's sensor.
Key fobs also allow business owners and managers to have greater control. They can allow specific employees to gain access to certain areas within your building or facilities during specific times of the day. With a simple click and you can deactivate access to an employee or even dismiss them. This is a particularly useful option for warehouses or other structures that require greater security.
Convocation
Many of the newer key fobs are equipped with hidden functions that make life easier for car owners. For example, a CR auto editor once went to his Honda Accord and saw all the windows been automatically opened while it was in his purse at home. This isn't a good idea particularly if you're driving in a snowstorm or rainstorm.
The Model 3's key fob comes with many other awesome features, such as the ability to summon or auto-park the vehicle by pressing of the button. Another cool feature is the panic button, which drivers can press when they are in a stressful situation, like when a burglar is in the home. This could scare off the criminal and help to inform neighbors, according an official Tesla spokesperson.

By using thekeylab , replace the old battery with a new CR 2032 battery (available at local hardware stores and big-box retailers). Then, reinstall the key's cover on the bottom and press it until you hear a click. Once the fob has been activated, you can test its functions by unlocking and locking your vehicle.
A duplicate key fob might be useful to friends or family members to allow them to use their own Driver profile, with their preferred settings. This means you don't have to worry about a friend or sibling accidentally altering the position of the mirror, climate control settings, or the seat position you prefer.
